Volkan Oezdemir to fight Dominick Reyes at UFC London – Mirror Online
Volkan Oezdemir is confident he can inflict a first defeat on Dominick Reyes when the light-heavyweights clash at UFC London on March 16.
Oezdemir is bidding to bounce back from successive defeats by Daniel Cormier and Anthony Smith while Reyes has won all 10 of his professional fights.
But the 29-year-old Swiss is confident he can upset the odds against the American.
“London is an amazing city and I can’t wait to fight there,” Oezdemir told Mirror Sport .
“It will be my first time and I’m really excited to meet all the British UFC fans and soak up, what I’m sure will be, an incredible atmosphere. Hopefully I can create a new loyal fanbase in England.
“I approach every fight confident of winning and this time is no different. I expect to KO my opponent on the night within the first round.
“Reyes is a hugely impressive fighter and has made a great start to his UFC career going undefeated. My job is simple and that is to put the first loss on his record.”
Until his defeat by then champion Cormier, Oezdemir had been riding a wave with victories over Misha Cirkunov, Ovince Saint Preux and London’s own Jimi Manuwa.
And he is confident he has made the neccessary changes to ensure he doesn’t lose for a third time in succession.
“I’m going back to my roots for this training camp and doing my preparations in Switzerland. I’m confident this approach will leave me in great shape to bring home a victory in London,” he added.
“My ultimate goal is to become the UFC light heavyweight champion. Aside from that I would absolutely love to fight in front of a home crowd one day and lead the main card at a UFC event in Switzerland.”
