UFC News: Conor McGregor bombshell from Dana White, DC’s coach on Jon Jones

Dana White makes Conor McGregor statement

UFC president Dana White has claimed Conor McGregor is being relieved of his lightweight title because he doesn’t want to defend it.

“Conor does want the belt, he does want to be the champion, but he doesn’t want to defend it,” he told Lance Pugmire of the LA Times. “I’d love to see him fight the winner of Ferguson-Khabib next.”

According to White, McGregor will be stripped of his title before Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov fight at UFC 223.

“That’s exactly right: As soon as one punch is thrown, it’s on for the full title and it’s only fair,” he said. “They’ve both worked their way up to No. 1 and No. 2. They deserve a shot.”

Javier Mendez discusses Jon Jones’ failed drug test

Daniel Cormier’s coach Javier Mendez believes Jon Jones’ second anti-doping violation has taken him out of the running for greatest fighter of all time.

“You know, I felt bad for everybody involved. Of course, most importantly I felt bad for my guy, Daniel,” Mendez told Express Sport.

“Because he deserved to fight a clean fighter. And the public deserved a clean fight. For the legacy of all of them.

“But the whole damn thing is tarnished now. Jon Jones, forget about the greatest of all time. That’s out of the history books.

“There’s no way in hell anyone is going to consider him the pound-for-pound.”

“It’s shame too because he never had to do that,” he continued. “That guy is so talented, he didn’t have to do any of that.

“I would have loved to have seen a clean fight between the two. But unfortunately, that’s not on the cards.”

Michael Bisping discusses potential Luke Rockhold fight

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has shot down talk of a trilogy fight with Luke Rockhold.

On Monday, Rockhold claimed that the UFC brass had reached out to Bisping to see if he was interested in having a rubber match with Rockhold.

“Why don’t we do this thing in style?” he said during an appearance on The MMA Hour.

“Let’s sign on the bottom line. I know this is a fight the UFC is pursuing.

“So, we’ll see. We’ll see if Bisping can back up his mouth once again.”

But according to ‘The Count’ no fight offer has come his way.

“I can categorically on the record state that I have not been offered a fight with (Rockhold) on July 7,” Bisping said told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. “He shouldn’t be so keen to get knocked out again anyway.

“Stick to modelling. Judging by his last three fights, MMA certainly doesn’t appear his thing anymore.”
